JOB SEEKERS CLUB

Join your friends and neighbors at the Job Seekers Club and jump start your job search. This group meets on a regular basis to discuss topics of interest to both the unemployed and underemployed. Outside speakers with particular expertise in various areas are brought to the group to give workshops and lectures. Meetings rotate between Kemp Mill Synagogue, Silver Spring Jewish Center and Young Israel Shomrai Emunah. Events generally take place on weekday evenings. Programming reflects the needs and desires of the group and suggestions for topics are welcomed.

Meetings include refreshments and provide a great opportunity to network with other job seekers and community members.

Outside speakers may be:

  • Recruiters
  • Human resouce specialists
  • Financial planners
  • Career counselors, etc.
Previous topics have been:

  • Getting in the door to a position via networking, etc.
  • Using County resources to find a job
  • Dealing with age and other types of discrimination
  • Resume assistance
  • Applying for government jobs

The Rambam notes that the highest form of tsedakah is to help one on the verge of financial ruin. Over time, assisting in finding one good job for one who is unemployed, in addition to restoring that person's self esteem & morale, is equivalent to raising hundreds of thousands of dollars.
